Fort Hunt Football

Welcome to the Fort Hunt Football Family! We are excited about this season and plan on providing a fun, safe, and positive experience for you and your child. This is accomplished through emphasis on sportsmanship, team play, self-discipline, maximum effort, integrity, and maximum participation in a FUN environment. The information below will be of benefit to rookies and veterans alike, as well as to their parents and legal guardians, answering many of the most common questions and concerns.

The Fort Hunt Federals Football Camp is a non-contact football camp designed to improve a player's skill level. The fundamentals of all positions will be taught in addition to life skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship and the importance of education. Cheerleaders will be taught the basics of cheer in a fun and nurturing environment.

Football general information

Below are details for the upcoming Tackle and Flag Football seasons.

TACKLE

is a member of the Northern Virginia Youth Football League (NVYFL) and is governed by its rules and regulations - see https://nvyfl.org/ for more information. We play full contact football under modified High School Rules (which are different than the NFL) and play games against opponents, of comparable size and ability, throughout the county and surrounding area. (7-16 age & weight matrix is below)

Our Commitment: Kids First

What makes NVYFL different from other youth football programs is we go the extra mile to put kids first.  Our foremost priority is to ensure a safe and enjoyable sports experience that fosters fitness, integrity, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Safety

All coaches in our league must undergo a background check, sign a coaches’ code of conduct and complete the USA Football Certification training each year. USA Football certification includes annual testing to assure that all coaches are trained in the latest Heads Up fundamentals as well as such safety measures as hydration and heat awareness and the proper fitting of equipment.  We are deeply committed to providing a safe environment for kids to enjoy a game we love and respect.

Player Participation

NVYFL is one of the only leagues nationwide that has a mandatory player participation rule. This simply means that all kids who are enrolled in our league must play in every game.  We make this rule a point of emphasis, and any coach who fails to comply is subject to a variety of sanctions including suspension.

Fair Competition

One other key factor that makes our league unique is that we have three levels of competitive play as well as a proven age/weight matrix.  As a result, players are matched against competition that is similar in regard to size, age, experience, and skill.  This system promotes player safety, player development, fair competition and enjoyment of the game.

FLAG

Our House League Flag football program is designed to offer a safe, dynamic, and competitive environment for young athletes to both discover and develop the skills and techniques necessary to succeed on both sides of the ball. The slate of practices and games ensures that all flag football participants receive comprehensive instruction and gain a keen understanding of the sport. (5-14 boys & girls) Flag Football will practice 1 day a week and play one game a week. This will be a house league so travel is restricted to the local Fort Hunt community.

The Fort Hunt Federals Flag Football League teaches players basic football skills, while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.
Practices and games take place two days during the week leaving weekends free for family time, making this a convenient option for families.
In the game of flag football, teams run or pass the ball down the field in order to score a touchdown. The primary difference in flag is that it is a “no contact” game. Instead of tackling the ball carrier, defensive players attempt to pull the flags off the ball carrier’s belt.
The players will be separated by age and placed on a team. They will play against kids in their age group. Players will practice on one weekday and play a game on the next designated weekday….ie practice Tuesday and game on Thursday.
Don’t let your apprehension keep your child away from the fun of the game. Youth sports help kids stay fit, build character and develop skills they will use the rest of their lives.
